The “Curhaus ” at Stephansplatz 3, looks back at a string of memorable events  relevant for the educational history of the City of Vienna: Soon after the consecration of Saint Stephen’s Cathedral in 1147, a parish school was established on the site. An important step for the educational system was taken in 1296 when Duke Albrecht I handed over the parish school to the citizens of Vienna.

The present building was erected in 1740 as “Curhaus”, a house for the parish priests of the cathedral, and now accommodates – apart from the KPH Educational Centre Stephansplatz – various diocesan administrative offices, the Archiepiscopal Education Authority, rooms for the parish, lodgings of the cathedral curate and the Curhaus priests as well as the magnificent Curhaus library. At this location, the KPH Vienna/Krems offers teacher professional development programmes for all subjects and for religious education in particular.
